Obituary for Bernice Wilnette Fleming (Silver Leaf)
Bernice Wilnette "Silver Leaf" Fleming, 82, of Woodland, NC died November 24, 2021 at the Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edenton, NC.
Bernice was born January 13, 1939, in Aquebogue, Riverhead NY to Wilhelm Certain and Octavia Harris. She was married to Samuel Red Hawk Fleming who preceded her in death, August 2, 2017.
Bernice is survived by her daughter Anna Young, three sons John S. Young, Wil Young, Bo Youngbear and goddaughter Jade Jackson along with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren..
Bernice was a longtime resident of North Carolina. Both she and Sam spent their retired years at Native American festivals creating and selling a variety of tribal crafts. She and Sam enjoyed being outdoors with friends and studying genealogy of her Native lineage. A tradition ceremony will be planned for both Bernice and Sam in the fall of 2022 on the Shinnecock Nation Reservation, Long Island, NY.
