Craig Allen May was born July 11, 1966 in Charleston, WV and grew up in Matthews, NC and Indian Trail, NC. Craig graduated from Piedmont High School in 1984. During his high school tenure, Craig was a top tier athlete. He excelled in football, and competed in the state championship in wrestling. After high school, Craig attended Brevard College and Appalachian State University, majoring in Leisure Studies with a focus on resort management.
Craig started working in the HVAC business at age 15. and went on to open his own company, Air Design Systems, in 1995. Air Design was a very successful business in the Charlotte area for almost 15 years, with 50+ employees and subcontractors working for them.
Craig was a loving father to three sons, and always found the time to support each of them. Despite a busy schedule, he never missed one of his sons’ sporting events, and even served as a coach for multiple baseball, basketball, and football teams. Regardless of circumstance, he always found a way to put his children before himself.
After spending many years managing his HVAC company, Craig sought a change of pace. He decided to sell his company to pursue a life in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with his younger brother, Scott. Together, Craig and Scott went into business together building furniture out of wood they reclaimed from the coast. After years of hard work, this company is having a record year in sales.
Craig was a lifelong outdoorsman, loving the mountains and the coast. He was a very skilled fisherman/hunter, and made sure to pass his knowledge, and enthusiasm for the outdoors, down to the next generations of Mays. Blessed with a quick wit and a great sense of humor, Craig was able to make anyone laugh. Along with his great personality, Craig was truly selfless. He never hesitated to help someone in need. With his altruistic ways, great sense of humor, and infectious personality; he always found a way to brighten every room he walked in. If you had the pleasure to know Craig May, you know that it was an honor.
Craig May, 55, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Vidant Health in Greenville, NC from complications following a stroke.
Craig is survived by twin sons, Jordan May of Tampa, FL and Christian May of Charleston, SC; mother, Mary May of Locust, NC; brother, Scott May of Marshallberg, NC; sister, Kristen May Weggel and brother-in-law, David Weggel of Huntersville, NC; niece, Ames May of Charlotte, NC; niece, Portia Weggel of Huntersville, NC.
Craig was preceded in death by his father, Clayton May; brother, Curt May; and son, Cameron May.
