Hjoerdis Ursula Gregson, 74 of Williamston, NC passed away at her home on February 8, 2021 beside her family and friends and her little dog Gigi. She fought a short and very hard battle of pancreatic and liver cancer.
Hjoerdis was born in Biedenkopf, Germany and is the oldest of four siblings. She grew up on the island of Hann Muenden, Germany where she took an apprenticeship at a Health store and later moved to a department store. Later she meet a young American Army solider named Raymond T. Gregson Jr and they married and moved over to the United States at her age of 21.
Hjoerdis loved being outside. She was always drinking coffee, planting her flowers or going fishing, camping or going to the beach. If it wasn't raining outside she would be outside. Hjoerdis was also loved by so many people and most of them called her "Oma" because they could not say her name. She helped raised so many children in the Stokes community everyone knew her by "Oma" or the "Little German Lady". She was also a long time resident of the Stokes community where she worked at the Convenient World and later the BP store in Stokes. She was also the bookkeeper for John's Flowers in Greenville until she went out on disability.
Hjoerdis is preceded in death by her mother Hannelore Schmidt who was a nurse and her father Herman Schmidt whom was a famous stone sculpture and a brother Sven Schmidt all of Germany. Nephew, Tobias B.Bishop of Greenbrier, Arkansas.
Her survivors include her two sisters Esther & Patrick Bishop of Greenbrier, Arkansas, Lonny Schmidt of Germany. Daughter-in-law Wanda Gregson and David Bullock of Williamston, two sons Raymond Thomas Gregson III of Hookerton, Michale J Gregson of Greenville, three grandchildren Michale J. Gregson Jr. and wife Brittany of Belvoir, Staci Marie Harris and Toby P. Gregson both of Williamston, three great grandchildren Easton Harris, Hunter and Bailee Gregson. Two nieces Abi & Mike Taylor and daughter Maggie Ray Little Rock, Arkansas, Krishna Kohler and son Noel, nephews Soren and Johannes Schmidt and son Paul all of Germany.
The family will be receiving friends and family at 1332 McCaskey Road Williamston, NC 27892. They will also be having a memorial service at a later date per Hjoerdis wishes.
