JOSEPH WALTER RABURN, age 64, of 975 Main St., Swan Quarter, NC died unexpectedly on April 30,

2020. Born on April 12, 1956, to Joseph Madison Raburn and Mary L Raburn Sawyer of Swan Quarter,
“JW” was the youngest of eight children. He is survived by sisters, Lenora “Nonie” Bright and Doris
Cahoon of Swan Quarter, Josephine Haywood of Savannah, GA and Harriet Pendleton of St. George,
Utah, one brother, Jim Raburn of St. George, Utah, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special, long-
time friend, Beth Strathern of Greenville, NC. In addition to his mother and father, JW was preceded in
death by a brother, Jacky Raburn and a sister, Mary Lou Clausing.
During his working career, JW was a registered nurse for Pungo District Hospital in Belhaven and Cross
Creek Nursing facility in Swan Quarter. He also served briefly as a traveling nurse on a reservation in
JW had a love of music and enjoyed playing bass guitar. He played with several local bands including Bad
Bob and the Rocking Horses and The Blues Lords. JW also had a love for history, his family and the
simple things in life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, each of whom share their own
special memories of times spent with him.
No services will be held at this time. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be planned at a
